Learning interest is an important internal factor that can enhance students' scientific literacy skills by fostering active engagement, curiosity, and perseverance throughout the learning process. This study aimed to examine the relationship between learning interest and scientific literacy skills and to determine the extent to which learning interest contributed to the scientific literacy skills of junior high school students. A quantitative approach with a correlational research design was employed. The study involved 127 students from SMP Negeri 8 Tarakan, selected using simple random sampling. Learning interest was measured using indicators of enjoyment, attention, interest, and engagement, while scientific literacy skills were assessed through a scientific literacy test focusing on the scientific competency dimension. The results show that the mean score for learning interest was 67, indicating a high level of learning interest among students, whereas the mean score for scientific literacy skills was 41 70. Pearson's correlation analysis produced a significance value of 0.695 (p>0.05) and a correlation coefficient of 0.035, indicating a very weak relationship between the two variables. Furthermore, linear regression analysis yielded a coefficient of determination (R) of 0.001 (0.1%), indicating that learning interest accounted for only 0.1% of the variance in students' scientific literacy skills. These findings imply that learning interest is not a significant predictor of scientific literacy skills among the participants. Therefore, it can be concluded that no statistically significant relationship exists between learning interest and the scientific literacy skills of junior high school students in this study.

This study aims to investigate the correlation between students’ interest in English and their reading comprehension. Utilizing a correlational research design with a quantitative approach, the data were collected through cluster random sampling, selecting classes VIII-4, VIII-5, and VIII-7 from SMPN 7 Tarakan as the sample, which included 85 students. The instruments used in this research comprised a questionnaire to measure students’ interest in English and a reading comprehension test. Data analysis was conducted using the Pearson Product Moment, with the assistance of SPSS version 25.0, to determine the presence or absence of a correlation between students’ interest in English and their reading comprehension. The statistical analysis yielded an r-test value of 0.617, which exceeded the r-table value of 0.213 (0.617 > 0.213). Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It can thus be concluded that there is a significant correlation between students’ interest in English and their reading comprehension in the eighth grade at SMPN 7 Tarakan.

This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between the habit of singing English songs and listening comprehension. In this study, researchers used the correlational method. The sample of this study was 73 second-semester students in English Education at the University of Borneo Tarakan. The findings in this study are that in the habit of singing English songs, almost all respondents have good grades, with a percentage of 59.7%. In listening comprehension using scores from the Literal Listening course, 38 students got an AB grade, 27 students got an A grade, 7 students got a B grade, and 1 student got a BC grade. The results of the habit of singing English songs and listening comprehension data are used in the normality and linearity tests. The results are normal and linear data, and correlation calculations use Pearson Product Moment with SPSS 22. The results of analyses using SPSS 22 are significant values 0.665 > 0.05, meaning H0 is accepted. It can be concluded that the correlation coefficient between the habit of singing English songs and students' listening comprehension is very weak. Then in the table value "r" for N = 73 is 0.2213 for a significance degree of 5% where rxy r table. So it can be concluded that there is no relationship between the habit of singing English songs and listening comprehension in the second-semester students of the Department of English Education, University of Borneo Tarakan

The purpose of this study was to find out that there was a significant relationship between self-efficacy and listening comprehension of the 2019 English Education students at the University of Borneo Tarakan. This research uses quantitative methods. Determination of the sample is done by total sampling technique. Researchers took 65 students to carry out this research. Data was collected using a questionnaire and a listening test. Self-efficacy questionnaire from Rahimi and Abedini (2009) with 20 statements used to measure listening comprehension skills. This study uses the Pearson Product Moment correlation test to analyze the data. The results of this study indicate that there is a relationship between self-efficacy and listening comprehension, with the value of the rest (0.0640) being greater than the rule (0.244), which indicates a relationship. The results of the listening comprehension test were tested with the TOEFL diagnostic test, which was then converted to CEFR at the student level. The results of the CEFR level conversion show that English Language Education students Class of 2019 at the University of Borneo Tarakan are at level A2

The purpose of this research was to measure the relationship between reading habits and vocabulary mastery in learning English of eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Tarakan. This study used quantitative techniques and a correlational research method. Students in the eighth grade made up the subject of this study, which used a sample of up to 32 pupils using the cluster random sampling methodology. In collecting data, researchers used reading habit questionnaires and vocabulary test. Data was analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation. The results of the research showed that the reading habits and vocabulary mastery in learning English in eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Tarakan were in the medium category. A t-test result of 0.443 > r-table = 0.361 revealed a medium category positive correlation between eighth graders at SMP Negeri 3 Tarakan English reading habits and vocabulaty mastery. In conclusion, reading habits and vocabulary proficiency in learning English had a good link in the medium category.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada hubungan antara penguasaan kosakata dengan keterampilan menulis teks persuasif kelas VIII Mts Negeri Tarakan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kuantitatif yang termasuk kedalam penelitian korelasi. Metode pengambilan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan instrumen tes yang terdiri dari tes penguasaan kosakata dan tes menulis teks persuasif. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini yaitu tes, wawancara dan dokumentasi Pengambilan sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu teknik random sampling. Penelitian ini menggunakan bantuan Spss version-26 untuk melakukan uji prasyarat analisis. Uji prasyarat analisis dalam penelitian ini yaitu uji normalitas dan uji lineritas. Teknik analisis pada penelitian ini menggunakan analisis product moment. Hasil dari penelitian ini yaitu “terdapat hubungan yang positif dan signifikan antara penguasaan kosakata dengan keterampilan menulis teks persuasif siswa kelas VIII Mts Negeri Tarakan. Data yang diperoleh dari hasil uji korelasi menggunakan analisis product moment dengan bantuan Spss Version-26 adalah rhitung 0,432 > rtabel 0,254 maka dari hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa “hubungan penguasaan kosakata dan keterampilan menulis teks persuasif kelas VIII Mts Negeri Tarakan yaitu positif “Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak.” This study aimed to determine whether there was a relationship between vocabulary mastery and the skills of writing persuasive texts for class VIII MTS Negeri Tarakan. this study used a quantitative research method that belongs to correlations research. The data collection research method in this study used test instruments consisting of a vocabulary mastery test and a persuasive text writing test. Data collection method techniques used tests, interviews, and documentation. The sampling used was a random sampling technique. This is study used SPSS version 26 to test prerequisite analysi. The analysis prerequisite tests wer normality test and the linearity test. The analysis technique in this study used product moment analysis. The results of this study are “ there is a positive and significant relationship between vocabulary mastery and the skill of writing for class VIII students of MTs Negeri Tarakan. The data obtained from the results of the correlation test using product moment analysis with the help of SPSS Version-26 is r-count 0.432 > r-table 0.254, so from the results of this study it can be concluded that “the relationship between vocabulary mastery and persuasive text writing skills for class VIII MTs Negeri Tarakan is positive “Ha is accepted and Ho rejected.”

Abstract This objective of this research was to measure the correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking ability at the eighth grade students of MTs DDI (Madrasah Tsanawiyah Darud Da’wah Wal-Irsyad) Tarakan. This research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. All of the eighth grade students from class A (39 students) and B (21 students) were taken as the sample. The data were taken by using vocabulary test, speaking test, and interview. The data were then analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment correlation. The result of analysis showed that rtest was 0.563 which was higher than the rtable 0.254. The correlation coefficient 0.563 was classified into a medium correlation. There was a sufficient evidence to suggest that the alternative hypothesis was accepted which meant that there was a positive and significant correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their speaking ability. This result was supported with the interview which showed that the students who had self-confidence, interest, motivation tended to have much range of vocabulary and could perform speaking better. Mangrove forest is one of the mangrove crab habitats which is used as a spawning and rearing area. The purpose of the study was to analyze the relationship between mangrove density and the abundance of mangrove crabs in the Mangrove and Crab Conservation Area, Pamusian Village, Tarakan City. The sampling method used is purposive sampling method. carried out at 3 (three) station points and each station consists of 3 plots. In each plot, 2 folding traps were installed. The results showed that the highest density of mangrove species was from the mangrove species Rhizophora mucronata, while the lowest density was from the mangrove species Lumnitzera racemosa. The highest abundance of mangrove crabs was at station 3 and the lowest was at station 2. The correlation between mangrove density and mangrove crab (Scylla serrata) was found to have a tree-level correlation with an R2 value of 0.626 (Strong), tiller level with an R2 value of 0.041 (Very weak). and the seedling level with an R2 value of 0.227 (very weak). The effect of mangrove density on mangrove crabs using a simple linear regression test of 0.65 which means that the relationship between mangroves and mangrove crabs is quite strong, namely 65% while 35% is influenced by other factors.

This research was conducted to examine the correlation between students' self-confidence and the speaking achievement at the eleventh grade students of SMKN 1 Tarakan. This is a quantitative research with a correlational design. The population was the eleventh grade students. Using a simple random sampling technique, 85 out of 431 students in the eleventh grade were taken as the research sample. The data were collected using a questionnaire, and the students' speaking achievement were taken from the English subject teacher assessment documents in the first semester of the 2020/2021 school year. The data were analyzed statistically using the Pearson Product Moment with the help of SSS version 22.00, the results showed that there was a significant correlation between self-confidence and speaking ability scores of students as indicated by a significant value (, 000 0, 05) and a value r calculated is greater than the critical value (0.730> 0.210)

This study aimed at investigating a correlation between interest in learning English and English achievement of tenth graders at SMAK Frater Don Bosco Tarakan. This was a quantitative research with correlational design. The population was the tenth grade students at SMAK Frater Don Bosco Tarakan. Using simple random sampling technique, 93 of 121 students of classes X IPA, X IPS-A, X IPS-B and X IPS-C were taken as study sample. Data was collected using a questionnaire, while English achievement data was collected using the school documents of English achievement scores from the report cards in the second semester of the 2018/2019 academic year. The data was statistically analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation with the help of SPSS version 24.0. The results showed that there was a significant correlation between interest in learning English and English achievement of tenth graders at SMAK Frater Don Bosco Tarakan as indicated by the significance value of 0.013 0.05 and the calculated r value was greater than the critical r value (0.256 > 0.203).
