Mangrove forests are unique coastal ecosystems found in tropical regions such as Indonesia. Gastropods and bivalves, mollusks with or without shells, are commonly found in mangrove ecosystems, living on or within substrates and attaching to mangrove roots. This study aimed to examine the community structure of mollusks in the Mangrove and Proboscis Monkey Conservation Area (MPMCA) in Tarakan. A quantitative descriptive and survey-based method was used. Fieldwork (in situ) was conducted to identify the composition and abundance of mollusks in the conservation zone. The findings revealed the presence of the Mollusca phylum, consisting of two classes, gastropods with 811 individuals (96.20%) and bivalves with 32 individuals (3.80%). Gastropod abundance was dominated by Nerita sp. (44.0%), followed by Bythinia (25.2%) and Telescopium (23.6%). A single species represented bivalves, Gelonia sp. (kapah clam). The Shannon-Wiener diversity index was very low (H0.1618), indicating low diversity, while the dominance index was high for gastropods (D0.0588) and bivalves (D-0.1582), reflecting an imbalanced mollusk community structure. A rise in gastropod numbers from 749 individuals in 2021 to 811 in 2025 suggests improving the mangrove ecosystem quality in the KKMB Tarakan City.

Abstract Fish resources refer to abundant fish and other marine organisme with the inherent capacity for natural replenishment. A diverse range of fish species is captured using fishing gear known as Stownets. This study assessed the fish variety and catch rates in Muara Bulungan and Muara Sesayap, located in North Kalimantan. The investigation was conducted throughout the period spanninf from October to November of the year 2022. The research employed a quantitative descriptive methodology. The sampling procedure was conducted during the alternating periods of high and low tides in seawater. Samples of fish were obtained from the captures of Tugu fishing gear. A total of 30 distinct species were observed, classified into 3 phla, 7 classes, 16 orders, 18 families, and 29 genera. Gazza is the fish species exhibiting with the lowest abundance is scatophagous, comprising a mere 0,01% of the population. The recorded fish catch rates for the Muara Bulungan fishing are as follows: trip 1 yielded an approximate rate of 2,725 kg/h, trip 2 resulted in a rate of 1,089 kg/h, and trip3 exhibited flow rates for trip 1, trip 2, and trip 3 were 1,834 kg/h, 1,375 kg/h, and 2,581 kg/h , respectively.

Mangrove forest is one of the mangrove crab habitats which is used as a spawning and rearing area. The purpose of the study was to analyze the relationship between mangrove density and the abundance of mangrove crabs in the Mangrove and Crab Conservation Area, Pamusian Village, Tarakan City. The sampling method used is purposive sampling method. carried out at 3 (three) station points and each station consists of 3 plots. In each plot, 2 folding traps were installed. The results showed that the highest density of mangrove species was from the mangrove species Rhizophora mucronata, while the lowest density was from the mangrove species Lumnitzera racemosa. The highest abundance of mangrove crabs was at station 3 and the lowest was at station 2. The correlation between mangrove density and mangrove crab (Scylla serrata) was found to have a tree-level correlation with an R2 value of 0.626 (Strong), tiller level with an R2 value of 0.041 (Very weak). and the seedling level with an R2 value of 0.227 (very weak). The effect of mangrove density on mangrove crabs using a simple linear regression test of 0.65 which means that the relationship between mangroves and mangrove crabs is quite strong, namely 65% while 35% is influenced by other factors.

The waters of Tarakan Island have enormous fishery potential, it can be seen from the diversity of fish caught, these waters are one of the fishing areas with monumental fishing gear, one of which is the Amal Beach on Tarakan Island. This study aims to identify the relative abundance of fish species and classify based on the size of the pomfret (Pampus sp.) caught in the Tugu fishing gear in the Amal Coast waters of Tarakan Island. The research was carried out for 2 months from June to July 2021. The total fish caught were 2,932 fish, which were distributed in 3 phyla, 4 classes, 13 orders, 15 families, 17 genera and 18 species. The relative abundance of fish species ranged from 0.14 – 48.06%, the highest abundance of the species Panaeus merguensi 48.06%, Ilisha sp. 15.04% and Argyrosome sp. 11.94%, while the lowest abundance was from Portunus sp. 0.14%, Pseudorhombus sp. 0.31%, and Paraplausia sp. 0.38%. The total length of pomfret (Pampus sp.) caught ranged from 8.2 – 27.13 cm which was dominated by the size of 8.2 – 11.96, the pomfret caught was juvenile or immature fish with a size smaller than 15 ,9 cm.

this study aimed to find out morphology and abundance of mudskipper on Sebatik Island and the potential for its implementation as learning materials in biology learning. Bsed on the morphology, mudskipper had 5 differentiating characters from 23 morphometric characters. For the relative abudance, the species that was classified as high was the Periophthalmus chrysospilos Bleeker (80,64%), the moderate abudance was found in the species of Boleophthalmus boddarti Pallas (16,12%), and the lowest abundance was found in the species of Periphthalmodon schlosseri Pallas (3,22%). These was a link between research in biology learning, namely vertebrate material for class X SMA and basic competence 3.8, applying the classification principle to classify animals into phyla based on life. The results of this identification were poured into teaching materials in the form of lesson plans, practical, guides, student worksheets and handouts.
