Abstract Soybean is the most important food commodity in Indonesia after rice and corn. Soybean production in Indonesia has increased every year but it still cannot meet the national needs. The national need for soybean consumption in 2013 reached 2.24 million tons, but production only reached 779,992 tons. North Kalimantan has the potential in soybean cultivation as it produced soybean by 2,239 tons in 2015. In 2014 its production amounted to 97 tons and in 2013 to 84 tons. However, soybean plants are very susceptible to pests such as Grayak caterpillars (Spodoptera litura) and grasshoppers (Valanga nigricornis) which always eat their leaves. The purpose of this study was to determine the population densities of S. litura and V. nigricornis pests in soybean plants. Using a descriptive method, this research was conducted in December 2018 to February 2019 in the Experimental Garden of Borneo Tarakan University. The results showed that the highest population density of S. litura was 0.40/plant found at plants aged 60 DAP, while the highest population density of V. nigricornis was 0.08/plants found at plants aged 36 DAP. Keywords: Soybean, Spodoptera litura, Valanga nigricornis

This research is conducted on the basis of problems that occur in the research location. The most common problem for com farmers is weather. Efficiency is a method used in a process of production that can produce a maximum output with the minimum possible cost of production, especially raw materials or ways that can produce a maximum output with limited resources. The purpose of the research was to determine the system of com cultivation and the efficiency of the production of com. The research was conducted in Juata Laut, North Tarakan Sub-District, Tarakan City. The research used the census sampling method. The method of data analysis used was qualitative descriptive analysis, while the efficiency of production used the stochastic frontier production function with the Frontier 4.1 program. The results of the research showed that the technique of corn cultivation in Juata Laut Village, North Tamkan Sub-District, Tarakan City, implemented several stages, including seed preparation, the seeds used were approximately 200 grams for 20 m Land processing took 7 to 10 days Planting used 2 corn seeds in planting holes at a distance of 75 cm x 50 cm. Fertilization is done three times, as well as maintenance and harvesting The efficiency of production of corn farming at the technical efficiency (ET) average value was 0.982, or 98.2%; the value of allocative efficiency/price (EA) was 0.884, or 88.4%; and the value of economic efficiency (EE) was 0.920, or 92%. The factors affecting technical inefficiency are farming experience, and those affecting economic efficiency are the status of land. Keywords: Efficiency, Technical, Allocative, Economic, Corn
