This study aims to find the types of grammatical errors that students make in writing recount text, the types of errors that students make most often, and the sources of these errors. The researcher used a qualitative-descriptive design. The research subjects were 21 students of class IX-1 at SMP Negeri 10 Tarakan. The researcher used writing tests and interviews to collect data. The results showed that students made grammatical errors in all categories based on Surface Strategy Taxonomy (Dulay, 1982). The first category was formation error which is the highest type of error made by students with 65 errors or (82%). The second category was omission which consisted of 7 errors (9%). The third type of errors was arrangement errors with 6 errors (8%). Addition is the lowest error type with only 1 error (1%). The sources of errors that affect students in making errors were interlingual transfer and intralingual transfer. The intralingual transfer was the highest frequency, with 66 errors (84%). Interlingual transfer was the second source of errors with 3 errors (16%).

This study aimed to describe the difficulties of students in compiling a generic structure in writing recount texts and to find out the dominant difficulties that students have in writing recount texts. The research methodology used was a mixed method in which the researcher combined qualitative and quantitative data to obtain data. Abstract: The objective of this study was to determine whether there was a significant effect of using cue card for teaching writing in recount texts for eighth graders at SMP Negeri 12 Tarakan. This research employed a pre-experimental method, with one pre-test and post-test experimental group consisting of four meetings including treatment. The sample was taken by purposive sampling technique and the number of samples was 25 students in class 8.6. The instrument of this research was a written test of essay type. The data analyzed were pre-test and post-test using online cue card media through videos shared the Whatsapp application and repetition of material explanations through the Google Meet application. The Researcher looked for differences before and after being taught using cue card media. Data analysis using SPSS application was used for statistical analysis. The results of this study indicated the differences in the scores of the two tests in the use of cue cards before and after being taught. The researcher determined the students' average score in the writing test between the pretest and posttest. Researcher found the mean value of the pretest was 67.96 before being given treatment. After being given treatment, the average posttest score was 78.96. The developmental average of both tests was 11.00 points. The result of the t-test analysis was 12.803. This means that the t-test is higher than the t-table where the degrees of freedom (df) are 24 and the significance level is 5% p = 95%. (t test 12,803 > t table 2,064). So, it can be seen that the posttest value is higher than the pretest value. Ha is accepted when the t-score is higher than the t-table, while Ho is rejected.

The experimental class was taught using NHT. After being given the treatment, the students were asked to answer the test given at the post-test satge. The result of the study showed that there was a difference in the mean score between the pre-test (M = 53.38) and the post-test (M = 77.06), with an increase by 23.68. the result of paired sample t-test showed that the p-value was smaller than the level of significant (0.000 0.05), indicating that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. This study aimed to determine the effect of using the Learning Cell Strategy Method in improving ability to write recount text of eight grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Tarakan. This study used a quasi experimental design. Two groups of samples were taken using purposive sampling technique. The experimental group was taught using the Learning Cell Strategyand the control class was taught using the Small Group Discussion. The research instrument was a written test. The data were taken from the pre-test and post-test results of the experimental and the control classes. An independent sample t-test was used to analyzed the data, with the help of SPSS 24.0. The results indicated that the mean score of the experimental group was 70.40 and that of the control group was 67.20. The t-table value was 2,000 and the t-test value was 4.474, meaning that the t-test value was higher than the t-table value (4.474 > 2,000). Not only the results of the independent sample t-test but the probability value was also lower than the significance level (0.00 0.05). In other words, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It proved that the result of students taught using the Learning Cell Strategy was higher than that using the Small Group Discussion. It was concluded that the use of Learning Cell Strategy in teaching writing of recount text to eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Tarakan was more effective than the use of Small Group Discussion.
