Abstrak

Macroscopic fungi are a group of fungi that are relatively large in size, easily visible to the naked eye, can be held and picked, and typically thrive in moist environments rich in organic matter. Their growth is influenced by shaded conditions and high humidity, such as in the Research Forest of Borneo Tarakan University. This area, characterized by dense and large trees, allows minimal sunlight to reach the forest floor, creating a damp microclimate conducive to vigorous fungal growth. Considering the impact of land-use changes on forest ecosystem structure, this study aimed to investigate the diversity and dominance of fungi within the area. This quantitative research employed an exploratory survey method with purposive sampling, focusing on moist habitats favored by fungi. Morphological observations were conducted using identification keys. Samples were collected from 20 plots each measuring 15x15 meters, resulting in 2,020 individual fungi identified across 13 families and 30 species. The calculated diversity index was 1.757, indicating a moderate level of diversity, while the dominance index was 0.276, suggesting low dominance. Environmental conditions in the study area were within the optimal range for fungal growth. The findings of this study can be integrated into biology learning, particularly within Basic Competencies 3.7 and 4.7 of the Grade X 2013 Curriculum. This competency requires students to be able to group fungi based on morphological characteristics and understand the role of fungi in various aspects of daily life.
