problems faced by students in learning english based on Merdeka curriculum at 7 grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Tarakan
This study aims to determine the problems that students in grade 7 often face learning English in implementing the Independent Curriculum. The subjects of this study were 7th grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Tarakan. The researcher used a qualitative design with instruments, namely Observation, Interview and Documentation. The results found were that the explanation was not heard clearly and the way the teacher delivered the material, and most of them felt less motivated by English lessons. Most students have textbooks from school to help the learning process at home and also the internet either available on the students cell phones or who have an internet connection at home. Based on the results, the researcher concluded that students have an interest in learning English but because the delivery of the teacher needs improvement in the method of delivering material in learning English needs to be improved.
