Abstrak
Vocabulary plays a crucial role in language learning. It serves as a connection point between the four language skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The use of Word Wall, a web-based platform that provides a collection of templates in various games, aims to facilitate the discovery and retention of new vocabulary words, making the learning process both engaging and interactive. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the Wordwal.net website in enhancing the vocabulary mastery of seventh-grade students at SMPN 5 Tarakan. Generally, the use of media as a teaching aid is intended to enhance the teaching process, making it more motivating and engaging for students. In this study, a quasi-experimental research design with a non-equivalent control group was employed. The success of the treatment was determined by comparing the pre-test and post-test scores of both groups. To collect data, vocabulary tests were administered to the participants. The findings of this study reveal that the Word Wall platform can significantly improve vocabulary mastery. This is evidenced by the average score of students in the experimental group increasing from 34.9 to 59 after exposure to the wordwall.net website. Meanwhile, the average score of the control group also increased from 37.7 to 41.7 after using another media without the wordwall.net website. The contribution of this research, particularly to students, is the identification that student grades can improve using online-based learning media; however, this may not apply to all students, as not all students have access to smartphones.
