Abstrak
Abstract This study aimed to describe the problem grammar equivalence found in the translation of descriptive texts. This research used a qualitative approach. Data were collected by giving tests to students and the collected data were analyzed using a descriptive method. Using stratified random sampling, 54 students from the English education department of the University of Borneo Tarakan were taken as the study samples. The result of the study showed that the most common problem was in the category of person in the form of possessive adjective and personal pronoun. Then, followed by the number category where the problem was in the translation of plural SL into singular TL. For the gender category, the problem found was in translating SL masculine to TL because it was not in context. For the tense category, there were no structural differences in the Indonesian language and the problem faced by the translators was on the use of time information. In the voice category, there were no structural changes in both English and Indonesian, just a matter of choosing the wrong words.
