THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY AND THEIR READING COMPREHENSION OF ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS IN SMK NEGERI 1 TARAKAN ACADEMIC YEAR 2019/2020

The purpose of this research was to find out is there any correlation between students' vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension in the eleventh grade in SMK Negeri 1 Tarakan. This research was in the form of quantitative correlation. In this research, the researcher tried to find out the correlation between students' vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension. The subjects of this research were students in eleventh grade which consisted of 110 students in SMK Negeri 1 Tarakan in academic year 2019/2020. The instruments were vocabulary mastery test and reading comprehension test. Besides that, the researcher used descriptive analysis to analyze the data and SPSS 24.0for statistical analysis. The results of this research indicated that there was no significant correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their reading comprehension. It was proven by the results of the students mean score. The students’ mean score in Vocabulary Mastery test were 83.22 and 79.95 in reading comprehension test. The results of Pearson Product Moment in correlation coefficient or the rvalue was 0.680 and it was 0.185 than rtable was 0.138. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mencari hubungan antara penguasaan kosa kata dengan pemahaman membaca pada siswa kelas sebelas di SMK Negeri 1 Tarakan. Penelitian ini berbentuk kuantitatif korelasi. Peneliti mencari hubungan dari penguasaan kosa kata siswa dengan pemahaman membaca siswa. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa di kelas 11 yang terdiri dari 110 siswa di SMK Negeri 1 Tarakan tahun pembelajaran 2019/2020. Instrumen yang digunakan pada penelitian ini berupa tes untuk mengukur penguasaan kosa kata dan pemahaman membaca siswa. Disamping itu, peneliti menggunakan deskriptif analisis untuk menganalisis data dan SPSS 24.0 digunakan untuk analisis statistik. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa adanya hubungan yang signifikan antara penguasaan kosa kata dengan pemahaman membaca siswa. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan hasil skor rata-rata siswa untuk penguasaan kosa kata dan pemahaman membaca siswa. Rata rata skor yang diperoleh siswa pada tes penguasaan kosa kata adalah 83.22 dan 79.95 pada tes pemahaman membaca. Hasil perhitungan dari Pearson Product Moment menunjukkan bahwa hasil koefisien korelasi atau r-hitung (0.680) lebih tinggi dari r-tabel (0.185). Hasil dari penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan signifikan antara penguasaan kosa kata dengan pemahaman membaca siswa. Kata Kunci: Penguasaan Kosa Kata, Pemahaman Membaca
