THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SUGGESTOPEDIA IN TEACHING READING SKILL AT EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS' OF SMPN 5 TARAKAN
This research aimed to analyze the implementation of Suggestopedia in teaching reading skills to class VIII students at SMPN 5 Tarakan. Suggestopedia is a learning method that emphasizes a relaxed learning atmosphere and the use of music to create a conducive learning environment. This research applied a qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects were students in class VIII-I at SMPN 5 Tarakan. The research results illustrated that Suggestopedia created comfortable and relaxed classroom conditions for students. In the first stage the teacher organized the classroom environment comfortable and cheerful. After that, the teacher played live instrumental music in the background and displays the text to which students must pay close attention. Teachers involved games, sentence construction, and other activities to review students' understanding. This research aimed to describe teacher activities in the implementation stage of the Suggestopedia method. From these results, the author concluded that the activities of the Suggestopedia method in the teaching and learning process made students happy and interested in the teaching and learning process. This method improves students' reading skills and increased their interest and motivation in learning.
