THE EFFECT OF SCRABBLE GAME ON STUDENTS’ READING ACHIEVEMENT IN ELEVENTH GRADERS OF SMAK FRATER DON BOSCO TARAKAN
The aim of this research was to find out the effect of Scrabble Game to improve students’ reading achievement in narrative text material of eleventh graders of SMAK Frater Don Bosco Tarakan. This research was pre-experiment. In this research, the researcher tried to find out the students' differences before and after being taught using the Scrabble game. The sample of this research was students in 11.A class that consisted of 23 students at SMAK Frater Don Bosco Tarakan in the academic years of 2019/2020. The instrument was a written test that included pretest and posttest. Besides that, the researcher used descriptive analysis with paired samples test and non-parametric statistics with the Wilcoxon test in SPSS version 23 program windows. The research result showed that the average scores of pretest and posttest were the pretest score was 39.04 and the posttest was 41.08. It means that the achievement of the students’ average score is -2.04. In the Wilcoxon test, it was found that t.count (-77) was less than t-table (2.07) It can be proved that scrabble game has no significant effect to improve students reading achievement in eleventh graders of SMAK Frater Don Bosco Tarakan.
