KAJIAN ETNOBOTANI PESTA BUDAYA MEJA PANJANG SUKU DAYAK DI DESA PIMPING SEBAGAI SUMBER BELAJAR BIOLOGI

2025 · Book ·

The Dayak tribe maintains and preserves the culture and customs inherited from their ancestors, one of which is through the tradition of the Long Table Cultural Feast. In this cultural feast, the Dayak community utilizes the surrounding natural resources, such as fruits and vegetables as serving ingredients, as well as other local plants for table making and decoration, which are done in mutual cooperation. However, in the midst of globalization, this form of traditional knowledge is increasingly subject to attrition and faces significant risks of endangerment. Through an ethnobotanical study approach, this research aims to explore the local knowledge system regarding the utilization, function, and cultural significance of plants within the context of the Long Table tradition. The research was conducted with a qualitative method using a narrative research design, through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and document analysis, with participants consisting of the customary head, chairman of the activity committee, village head, and the community directly involved. The results showed that there were 27 plant species from 16 families, with details of 16 species utilized as food, 4 as decoration, 4 as equipment, 3 as food wrappers, and 5 as musical instruments. Some species have multiple functions that are full of symbolic meaning, enriching the cultural values contained in the tradition. The culture reflected in this practice is the result of a system of ideas, feelings, actions, and works that are formed and passed on through the process of social learning. Therefore, the integration of ethnobotanical-based local knowledge into biology learning has great potential in improving students' understanding of biodiversity concepts while fostering respect and appreciation for local cultural wisdom.
